Bom Jesus Basilica
Considered as the Goa’s most famous church, The Bom Jesus Basilica, is most visited church by tourists. Located at Old Goa, 10 kilometres east of Panaji, the Bom Jesus Basilica is a World Heritage Monument. The foundation stone of this church was laid in year 1594. The remarkably large church holds the mortal remains of Saint St. Francis Xavier.
Se Cathedral
Being the most ancient churches in India, the Se Cathedral was built to the honour the victory of the Portuguese ruler Afonso de Albuquerque for capturing Goa. The Cathedral is dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria on whose feast day in 1510 Alfonso Albuquerque took possession of the city of Goa. The church houses the famous Golden bell, which is considered one of the largest bells in the country.
Church of St Francis of Assisi
Built in 1661 by the Portuguese Viceroyalty of India, Roman Catholic Church is situated in the main square of Old Goa. The walls of this church exhibit unmatched carvings and paintings to add uniqueness among rest churches of the town. The church houses statues of St. Francis of Assisi and Christ for worship. In 1964, the Church of St. Francis of Assisi in Goa was converted into a museum by the Archaeological Survey of India.
Church of St. Cajetan
The design of this beautiful church is inspired from the design of Basilica of St. Peter in Vatican City, Rome. Visit to this church makes ones feel as one is in Rome only. Exquisite architecture showcasing a Corinthian style is the main attraction of this place. This church remains one of the most attracted attractions during a visit to Goa.
Church of Our Lady of The Immaculate Conception
Located in Panaji, this church is one of the oldest churches of Goa. The church distinguishes in design with two side zigzag steps leading to the church. The architecture and interiors of this place leaves the visitors spellbound. This church houses second largest bell of the state adding to its fame.
